Are has a master’s degree in music technology from NTNU, specializing in music for games. In his master’s thesis, he mapped which technical solutions are used in game music, with a focus on the effect the implementation techniques have on the compositions. Are has written music for several commercials and films, including the documentary films “Nasi Padang” (2020) “Golden Land” (2022). He has composed vignettes for various public spaces and events, including for Kosmorama, Trondheim Kino and Trondheim Developer Conference. He also has experience with sound art, where he likes to explore how interactions between natural sounds and music can create different impressions.
Likes to bring out contrasts and is fond of extremes that the music can emphasize. Are’s compositions are marked by the fact that he also works as a sound designer, where non-musical sounds can be incorporated to create additional associations and exciting expressions. For Are, it is important that the music helps convey the story on screen, but also that the music should be able to stand on its own two feet.
