Gaute Storaas

A Berklee College of Music graduate, Gaute has been focusing on writing high quality music for film and tv since well before the idents for the launch of Norwegian TV2 in 1992. Probably best known for the Oscar-nominated «A Man called Ove», «Elias, the little Rescue Boat», «Bröllop, begravning och dop», and the 2021 remake of «Three wishes for Cinderella».

As an arranger he has been working with artists ranging from jazz diva Karin Krogh, to champions of symphonic black metal, Dimmu Borgir.

With his background from pop, jazz and orchestral music, Gaute is a quite versatile composer, and he has often been given the privilege to work with large orchestras. But also in smaller projects, he really appreciates how real musicians can bring life and soul to the music, and thus, to the film. It´s all about the film.

Over the years, Gaute has received several awards and nominations, and is the only Nordic composer holding two Harpa-Awards.

To work with Gaute was one of the most inspiring collaborations I’ve had. We found each other very quickly and I enjoyed every moment. Gaute’s music gives the series a weight and a richness and takes the drama and the emotion to another level. It actually became the heart of the project.” (Colin Nutley)
